“We have a great bunch of girls and staff that we've assembled and now the only way is up.”
Jay Sadler, First Team Manager
Portsmouth FC Ladies are delighted to announce that Jay Sadler has been given the First Team Manager's role.
Sadler joined Pompey back in July 2016 coming in as a coach to the senior and soon becoming Assistant Manager to former Manager Craig Taylor.
Since the department of Taylor, Sadler has had the role of coaching and leading out the Blues on match days and has kept Pompey midtable in the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division.
The board met with Sadler earlier this week to deliver the news and to offer the job to the 24-year-old.
Chairman Mick Williams said: "At a recent board meeting it was unanimously decided to appoint Jay Sadler to the position of Manager with immediate effect and I am delighted that Jay has accepted the job.
"Jay is young, enthusiastic, well qualified, has done a good job for us as caretaker manager since November and the team spirit is good.
"I and the rest of the board look forward to continuing to work closely with Jay for a long time.
Sadler has recorded four wins out of seven competitive games in charge and will be looking to really make an impact now he had been given the managers role.
Sadler said: "I'm really happy and I have a really good affiliation with this club.
"We have a great bunch of girls and staff that we've assembled and now the only way is up.
"It gives us the incentive now to go out there and really push on."
Before this season Pompey had successful spells under the management team of Katy Poore and Perry Northeast and prior to them Vanessa Raynbird but Sadler isn't too worried about the pressures from their tenures.
“There’s always going to be a little bit of pressure and you’re the one who’s going to be targeted if anything goes wrong.
“But they are legends of the club with what they have done as they set the foundation and it’s something that we really need to take on and push for Super League status.
“Every manager who has been here has wanted it and that’s what I want. This club has worked hard to be there and deserves to be there it’s just going to take a little bit of time.”
Sadler’s first game in charge as First Team Manager comes this Sunday against Cardiff City Ladies at the CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence, Astrid Mynach, Caerphilly, 2 pm kick-off.
